California Required Insurance Coverage
For state of California, the minimum liability insurance required for private passenger cars is $35,000. If you break it down, that includes $15,000 for injury or death of one person, $30,000 for injury or death of more than one person, and $5,000 for damage to property. These figures are the minimum for California, so it is common, and even recommended, for drivers to get insured for more what is stated here. Remember, drivers are required to carry proof of car insurance at all times.
California Auto Insurance Law
In November 1988, Proposition 103 was enacted into California law. This proposition states that no insurer can refuse coverage to anyone that qualifies as a “Good Driver”. A Good Driver is someone who has been licensed for at least three consecutive years and has no more than one point on his/her driving record. Also, as a Good Driver, your auto insurance rates must be at least 20% lower than those of a driver who does not meet the requirements for a Good Driver.
